Empowering Futures Through Alternative Education and Sport

At Northern Edge Academy, we believe that every young person deserves a path to success—one that recognizes their unique strengths, passions, and potential.

As a leading provider of alternative education with a specialist focus on sport, we create a dynamic environment where students can thrive both in the classroom and on the field.

We combine tailored academic support with expert-led athletic development, helping learners re-engage with education while building confidence, resilience, and life skills through sport.

Whether you're a student, parent, educator, or partner, we invite you to explore what makes Northern Edge Academy different—where education meets opportunity, and every edge counts.

Engaging alternative education provision for young people.

There are many young people who find a mainstream school environment difficult, and schools need access to quality, affordable alternative education provision.

In 2025, we started our academy programme to meet this need.

We use non mainstream sports, such as Roller Hockey, with education and mentoring to inspire, engage and connect. And we’re dedicated to drive achievement and positive behavior changes in every young person referred to us. We offer alternative provision across Newcastle and the surrounding areas

qualifications

We use a powerful combination of sport, learning and mentoring to support young people.

We are registered with the exam board AQA, and The Unit Award Scheme (UAS) allows all students to engage with learning and have their achievements formally recognised.

Our Teachers, coaches and youth workers are experienced, often with lived experience of the issues young people referred to Northern Edge.

The Unit Award Scheme is a unique way to record learner achievement
